Top 3 HVAC Tips for Allergy Season

1.  Dehumidify Your Space

High humidity is the breeding ground for molds and allergens. If you notice fog on your window then you have a humidity problem in your space. To fix your high humidity problem, you can integrate a dehumidifier with your HVAC system.

Almost everyone has some sort of allergy to spores, and if you allow building humidity in your space, your comfort will be hampered. Besides, if someone in your family or yourself already has an allergy problem, it’ll create a lot of problems. That’s why it’s important to control the humidity of your space. You may be wondering why I suggested you install a dehumidifier when your air conditioner takes care of the humidity.

As Dallas is hot and humid, your air conditioner won’t be enough to reduce the humidity of your space to your desired level. As a result, molds and allergens will start to build up in your space, and your comfort will be hampered.

Again, sometimes your air conditioner can reduce the humidity level to a very low level. As a result, your skin will become dry. You’ll start to have itchiness and other skin related problems. That’s why it’s important to set the humidity to a certain level.

So, what is the ideal humidity level? The ideal humidity level is between 40 to 60 percentage. If the humidity level goes beyond 60%, you’ll start to feel sweaty. Besides, molds and allergens will start to build in your space.

Again, if the humidity level goes below 30 percent, you’ll start to have skin-related problems that I have mentioned earlier.

That’s why if you have an allergy problem, invest in a decent dehumidifier. It’ll ensure your comfort and save you from allergens and molds.

2.  Replace Your HVAC Air Filter

HVAC air filter is an integral part of an HVAC system, and it can help you to fight against allergens and molds.

The main duty of an HVAC air filter is to block small particles and micro-organisms from entering your space. Thus, it keeps your home and office space from molds and dust. But when it gets dirty, it cannot block molds and small particles anymore. As a result, your indoor air quality starts to decline, and you have allergy problems. That’s why it’s important to change your HVAC air filter regularly.

The ideal time of changing an HVAC air filter is between 60 to 90 days. However, as Dallas is a little bit polluted than other US cities, you may have to change your HVAC air filter more often. For an accurate time, you can contact your nearby HVAC professional.

Today’s HVAC system and HVAC air filters are advanced than ever. There are various types of HVAC filters available in the market, such as- HEPA and MERV HVAC air filter. These HVAC air filters are more efficient than regular ones.

HEPA and MERV HVAC air filter rating ranges from 1 to 16. Higher the rating, the more efficient your HVAC air filter will be. However, if your HVAC system is a little bit old, your HVAC system may not be compatible with a HEPA HVAC air filter.

3.  Clean Your Air Ducts

Air duct carries the air from your HVAC system. As a result, air ducts get dirty very quickly. If you don’t clean your HVAC air duct regularly, molds and allergens will start to grow in your HVAC air duct. Eventually, you’ll start to have allergy problems.

That’s why it’s important to clean your HVAC air duct regularly. For HVAC air duct cleaning, you can call an HVAC professional. However, the best way to fight allergens is by doing regular HVAC maintenance checkups.

There a number of HVAC professionals in Dallas who are experts in the HVAC system and you can blindly rely on them.
