Weather in Dallas during summer can be very extreme, and due to global climate change, the temperature is increasing every year. Because of the extreme heat during summer, the air conditioner has become a must for every dweller in Dallas. But if you run your air conditioner 24/7 and 365 days, you’ll have to deal with many health issues. Besides, you’ll have to spend a chunk of your fortune on the cooling bill. In this article, I’ll talk about how to avoid health risks air conditioning overuse. But before that, I’ll tell you about the health risks of air conditioning overuse.

Potential Health Issues because of Air Conditioning Overuse

1.       Allergy & Asthma Problem

According to many studies, indoor air pollution is more harmful than outdoor air pollution. When your home has poor air circulation, dust and debris will stay in your space. As a result, you’ll breathe in the air that is full of dust, debris, and allergens. When you live in a space where air quality is very poor, you’ll start to have symptoms like headaches, dizziness, breathing problem, itchy eyes, etc.

If you have any allergies, you’ll have trouble living in your space. In the worst-case scenario, you may have to go to the hospital and take emergency precautions. This is also true if you or someone in your family has asthma problems. If you allow the pollution to stay in your place for years, you’ll start to develop serious health issues.

2.       Dry Skin

This is the most common problem faced by air conditioner users every day. When you stay in air-conditioned room for a long time, you’ll start to have itchiness, dry skin, rashes, etc.

To increase the space’s comfort, the air conditioner reduces the humidity or reduces the water in the air. As a result, when you stay in a low humidity space for a long time, your skin will lack moisture and become dry. And when the skin becomes dry, you’ll start to have symptoms that I mentioned above. Again, many people have naturally dry skin. For them, staying in a low humidity condition can be very harmful.

3.       Respiratory Illness

When you stay in a low humidity space for a long time, not only you’ll have a dry skin problem, but also, you’ll start to have more respiratory diseases. When you stay in a cold place or low humidity place for a long time, your nasal mucus membrane dries out. As a result, your nasal mucus membrane becomes incapable of blocking viruses and bacteria. Eventually, you’ll get sick and need treatment. That’s why you’ll hear that the people in the cold areas get more infected by viruses or bacteria.

4.       Irritation in the Ear

When you stay in an air-conditioned room for a long time and if the room has poor air quality, molds in the air will enter your ear, and it’ll dry out. When the molds dry out in the ear, there’s a possible risk that you’ll have ear bleeding.

Again, if the air conditioner isn’t well maintained then you’ll hear noise coming out of the air conditioner. As a result, you’ll start to develop a hearing problem too.

Now, I’ll you about how to safely use the air conditioner and avoid health risks because of air conditioning overuse.

2 Ways to Avoid Health Risks from Air Conditioning Overuse

1.    Change the Air Filter Regularly

As I mentioned earlier, when you stay in an air-conditioned space for a long time, you’ll have lung and allergy problems if the air quality is poor. To solve this, you’ll have to make sure that you’re changing your air conditioner air filter regularly. When you change the air conditioner air filter regularly, your indoor air quality will be increased, and you won’t have any lung and allergy problems anymore. The ideal time of changing an air conditioner air filter is between 60 to 90 days.

2.    Use a Humidifier

When you integrate a humidifier with your air conditioner, you’ll have a stable humidity level throughout the day. As a result, your room’s humidity won’t drop drastically, and you won’t have skin problems.

Again, if you’re in an office space where you cannot integrate a humidifier, you can go out for 5 to 10 minutes from the air-conditioned room. Thus, your skin’s moisture will stay normal, and you won’t have any skin related problems.
