Whether it’s hot or cold out there, your HVAC system is always there for you to provide proper heating and cooling. Your HVAC system takes care of your comfort in your home and ensures that you breathe in clean air. But there’re lots of misconceptions and myths when it comes to your HVAC system, especially HVAC repair and servicing. In this article, I’ll tell you about the few HVAC repair and servicing myths that you hear everywhere.

Top 3 HVAC Repair & Service Myths

1.    HVAC Maintenance Isn’t Important

Many HVAC owners buy their HVAC unit and think that their heating and the cooling machine will last forever without any maintenance. But this is a completely wrong conception.

HVAC system is like any other machine. To function properly, it needs regular maintenance and change of parts if required.

When you properly maintain your HVAC unit, you’re in full control of your HVAC system. You and your contractor can estimate when is the right time to perform any changes in your HVAC system. If you don’t properly maintain your HVAC system, you don’t have any control over the HVAC system, and because of that, your HVAC system can stop working any time or season. If it stops working on a freezing night, it’ll be a terrible situation for you to handle, and nobody wants to be in that situation.

Also, regular HVAC maintenance can improve the overall efficiency of your HVAC system. When you perform the HVAC maintenance regularly, all the parts of your HVAC system are in full function. As a result, you’ll get the desired heating and cooling from your system. But when you don’t do it timely, the internal parts of the HVAC system may not work properly. For example, there can be a leak in the ducts, or the air filter can become dirty. As a result, the pathway of the air conditioner will be blocked, and the overall efficiency of the HVAC system will be lower. That’s why you need regular HVAC maintenance to increase the efficiency of your HVAC system.

2.    Changing the Air Filter Once in a Year

This is also another misconception about the HVAC system that you need to change the air filter once in a year. Your air filter is the main reason behind inhaling fresh and clean air. Its main function is to block all the small particles like dust, allergens, etc. from entering your house. As a result, the air filter becomes dirty very often. That’s why you need to change the air filter once every 3 months or 90 days, depending on the usage. Again, if you live in a city, you may need to change more frequently as it needs to block more dust and small particles.

When you don’t change the air filter regularly, your HVAC system may stop working as the dust can block the pathway of your HVAC system. That’s why you need to change the air filter around every 3 months.

3.    HVAC System doesn’t Need Maintenance Unless it’s Broken

If you have a car, you don’t want your car to stop in the middle of the road. To prevent this from happening, you take your car to a mechanical shop regularly to ensure your car is functioning properly. The same goes for your heating and cooling system since your HVAC system is also a machine, and it needs regular maintenance to function properly. If you don’t do the regular HVAC maintenance and wait for the system to stop working, you may fall in a situation where you need the HVAC system badly, and your HVAC system isn’t working.

Also, if you wait for your HVAC system to break and repair, you may end up spending a lot of money. Because when the HVAC system shuts down completely, there’s a high chance that the internal parts of your HVAC system are highly damaged, and you may need to change them. In some cases, you may need to buy the whole HVAC system. But if you don’t wait for the system shut down and regularly maintain your HVAC system, you can easily avoid spending too much money on your HVAC system.

This myth is also busted.
