Why We Focus on Repairing Your AC Instead of Replacing It
Many homes in neighborhoods like Canyon Creek, Prairie Creek, and Duck Creek still have older systems that struggle with the high humidity and triple-digit heat. A common concern among Richardson residents is finding a rare HVAC company that actually repairs units rather than just trying to sell new ones. We take pride in being that company.
While some contractors might tell you that a minor leak means you need a whole new system, we look for the most cost-effective path. If your unit is less than 12 years old and the repair is simple, we will fix it. We only suggest a new Trane HVAC unit or Goodman system if it is the best financial choice for your future comfort.
Common Signs It's Time for a Repair
Sometimes it is hard to tell if your system is just struggling with the heat or if something is actually broken. Here are a few clear signs that it is time to call us:
- Warm Air from Vents: If your AC is running but your home isn’t getting cooler, you likely have a refrigerant leak or a failing compressor.
- Strange Noises: Banging, squealing, or grinding sounds usually mean a part has come loose or a motor is about to fail.
- Frequent Cycling: If your AC turns on and off every few minutes, it is “short-cycling.” This places a huge strain on the system and spikes your energy bill.
- Water Leaks: Pooling water around your indoor unit is often a sign of a clogged condensate drain line or a frozen coil.
- High Humidity: Your AC should remove moisture from the air. If your home feels “sticky” or clammy, the unit isn’t doing its job.
How We Fix the Most Common AC Issues in Richardson
Technical issues do not have to be confusing. Here are the most frequent problems we solve for Richardson residents:
- Capacitor Replacement: The capacitor acts like a battery to start your motor. If your outdoor unit hums but won’t start, this is likely the cause. It is a quick and affordable fix.
- Refrigerant Leak Detection: If your AC runs all day but the house stays warm, you might be low on refrigerant. We don’t just “top it off”. We find the leak to prevent it from happening again.
- Frozen Evaporator Coils: This often happens due to a dirty air filter or a failing blower motor. We clear the restriction so your unit can breathe and cool properly.
- Thermostat Calibration: Sometimes the AC works fine, but the thermostat is set incorrectly. We ensure your thermostat is reading the room temperature correctly.

Top notch experience from these folks! Foster provided the highly competitive estimate for my Trane multi-stage heat pump and air handler, and quickly responded to follow up questions I had regarding my installation. Crystal flawlessly handled the installation scheduling, payments and warranty registrations. David and crew performed the install and left my home spotless. Had one issue with the install, which Crystal promptly addressed by sending out a tech. Prices for systems are listed on their website, which are accurate and represent a level of transparency not typically seen in the HVAC world.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
I was reading some Google reviews for HVAC companies in Richardson and noticed a few common complaints customers mention. Just curious — do you ever look at competitor reviews to see what customers mention the most?Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
I found Green Leaf Air mining through Reddit posts about local HVAC companies in the DFW area. Very glad I did! Was very surprised at their transparent pricing which is actually on their website (this is unheard of!) and the estimator Rick was awesome. I could tell he was really interested in getting me the best unit for my situation which is a smaller house that I plan on either selling or renting out in the in the next 5 years. Never felt like he was trying to upsell me just explained the pros and cons of the unit size as my house had a slightly smaller than recommended unit (former rental) and an instance where there was about $450 of ductwork where it would be best to make it larger to accommodate going from a 3 ton to a 3.5 ton unit. Also mentioned it would be better if decided to sell it for home inspection purposes. Having worked in SEO for home services and seen Service Titian job data. I knew working with them was a screaming deal. The unit with the small ductwork upgrades I paid just under $10k for would have easily been $13-16k or possible more with a bunch of run around from everyone else. The installers showed up on time and did a great job. They worked around one small snag which a sprinkler head next to the old pad which was going to be in the way over the newer larger unit. They moved it over like 2 feet and ended up working out great. Very happy with everything from start to finish.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
Rick with Greenleaf air conditioning was just fantastic. He came out and gave us an estimate on a complete new HVAC system. He was very honest and upfront. Two days later six fellas came out and installed the system. They were in and out in three hours. We were very satisfied with the installation. They did a really great job. We had a EasyStart on our old condenser and they transferred that EasyStart to the new condenser. Two months later, a good friend of mine has a elderly lady Neighbor and she needed a new system. She called Rick and two days later they installed her new unit and she’s very satisfied as well. Rick is fantastic guy and very trustworthy.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

Common Questions About Richardson AC Repair
How much does a typical AC repair cost in 2026?
Most common repairs, like a capacitor or contactor replacement, usually range between $150 and $450 in the Richardson area. More complex jobs like motor repairs can cost more. We always provide a clear quote before starting any work.
Why is my AC running but not cooling the house?
This is often caused by a dirty outdoor coil or a refrigerant leak. In older Richardson homes, it could also be due to sagging “grey ductwork” in the attic that is letting cool air escape.
Do you offer emergency AC repair on weekends?
Yes. We understand that a broken AC is an emergency in Texas. We prioritize urgent calls to get your home back to a safe temperature as quickly as possible.
Is it worth fixing a unit that is over 15 years old?
If the repair is minor, it might buy you another season. However, most units over 15 years old have very low efficiency. We can help you compare the cost of the repair versus the energy savings of a new system.
Can a dirty air filter really cause my AC to stop cooling?
Yes. A clogged filter blocks airflow, causing the indoor coils to freeze into a block of ice. Once this happens, air cannot pass through, and your home will stay warm. Changing your filter every 30–90 days is the best way to prevent a total shutdown.
