Since they were on their toes and almost about search “AC companies near me”, I had to give them a short answer. Thankfully, today I got the chance to explain and justify my answer.
But before that, I’ll point out the advantages of both having a zoned HVAC system and having two different systems installed in your two-storied building as your heating and cooling solution.

Let’s start with the advantages of zoned heating and air conditioning system –
1. Cost-effective for the long run

While with individual HVAC System, you will need to go to each area of your room to control the individual AC or heating system. But with zoned heating and cooling system, you can control individual areas or zones from part of your home. For example, if you have the bedrooms on the 1st floor and kitchen and living room in the basement, you can adjust the temperature downstairs while lying in the bedroom above.
3. You spend less in AC repair
Since there is only one HVAC system to take care of, AC services & repair costs will come down drastically. Sure, the zoning maintenance cost will add to the AC repair cost but this zoning maintenance is nothing compared to two AC maintenance & repair costs. So, eventually, the Air conditioning repair cost and heating system require cost is a win-win in this case.

Now let’s get into the advantages of having two different air conditioning units in your two-story building –
1. Less complicated
Since you won’t have to zone your central HVAC system, the complication of zoning is out the way. Also, you won’t have to bother about the equipment needed for zoning.
2. It costs more in AC installation
Since there is no need for the additional hassle of zoning, you are offered a fairly simple AC installation process. Since the AC installation process will be traditional in this case, you will also save from AC installation process.
3. You only need to worry about AC repair
Since you will not use zoning, you won’t have to worry about the maintenance of zoning equipment. You only need to take care of your HVAC system.

Now, it’s time to give the short answer that I always give when people are rushing to search “AC companies near me” or “AC repair near me”.
In simply tell them – if you are building a new house, go with the zoning. But if you already have an HVAC system installed in your two-storied building and it is unable to cover both floors, it is best if you get another HVAC system and use two heating and cooling system instead of one.
