July is the hottest month in the US. The temperature in July rises up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. In this hot and humid condition, you will need your HVAC system the most. Regular HVAC maintenance will increase the longevity of your HVAC system, and your HVAC system will function properly. In this article, I’ll tell you a few HVAC maintenance tips for July.

4 HVAC Maintenance Tips for July

1. Check the Air Filter

In July, because of the high temperature, your air conditioner will be used more often. As a result, your air filter will become dirty quickly than regular use. If you haven’t changed the AC filter for quite a long time, you’ll face this problem. The air filter has a lot to do with the air quality of your home. The air filter removes small particles, debris, dust, etc. from the air and protects your equipment from debris. When you don’t replace your filter for a long time, it gets clogged with debris, and it blocks the airflow. You’ll notice hot and cold spots in your house when you have a clogged air filter. Also, a clogged air filter can damage other parts of your HVAC system. So, if you don’t want to face this problem, try to change the air filter according to the manual book, and you should do it once in every 60 to 70 days according to the usage.

You can use your calendar or a digital calendar like Google Calendar to schedule the changing time of your air filter. Most of the users forget to change the air filter of their air conditioner. But when you use a calendar or a reminder, you can easily change the air filter on time without putting pressure on your brain. So, use these tools to remind the changing dates.

2. Check the Outdoor Equipment

If you’ve ever thought which part of your HVAC system removes the heat from your house, then the answer is the air conditioner coil. An air conditioner coil is an outdoor unit, and it releases the heat from your house to outside. As the air conditioner coil is placed on the outside, it can become very dirty quickly. When the coil becomes dirty, it needs to work more to release the heat and cool your home. As a result, you can face the airflow issue.

The solution to this problem is very easy. You’ll need to clean the condenser coil once or twice a year. You can choose to clean the condenser coil in June so that it doesn’t create any problem in the next month during important celebrations. If you aren’t comfortable about cleaning the air conditioner coil by yourself, you can call an HVAC professional to do it for you.

3. Check the Vents and Registers

Check all the registers and vents of your house, whether they’re blocked or not. If any object is blocking the air vents or registers, you need to remove the objects from the way. When there’s a block in the vents and registers, there’ll be a restriction in airflow. Remove all the rugs, carpets, and furniture away from the vents.

If you have the bad habit of throwing your clothes here and there and especially over bedroom vents, you need to change this habit. When there’s a block in the vents and register, you won’t get the desired temperature in summer. Also, because of the restriction in airflow, it’ll harm your HVAC equipment and shut down your air conditioner. So, clear the vents and register as soon as possible.

4. Check Home Insulation

If you want your HVAC unit to run at its full efficiency, you need to check the insulation of your home. Check if there are any air leaks and seal them up. Also, look for drafts in windows and doors. You need to check the attic to make sure your home insulation is working right. When you run your air conditioner, you definitely don’t want the air to go outside. That’s why it’s important to check the insulation of your house.
